Upwards with heart.
Donation initiative for the Mutter-Kind-Haus Immanuel.
Gutmann has been involved with Haus Immanuel, a Caritas transitional home for homeless women and their children, since 2002. We support families in crisis situations and offer them a safe place to live. As part of our long-standing partnership, we are now helping to finance the construction of an urgently needed lift.
A house that offers protection.
Haus Immanuel is integrated into an old Viennese residential building dating back to 1898, and the first mothers and their children moved in on 15 March 1993. Until now, the house has provided a total of 444 mothers and 713 children with a temporary home in acute crises.
The current 20 mother and child flats are spread over five floors and are equipped with simple furniture, a small kitchen and a shower cubicle. The families have the opportunity to personalise their living space. The aim is to relieve and strengthen the women and work with them to develop prospects for the future.
A remodelling that brings change.
The Haus Immanuel is poorly/not well insulated, the windows are old and single-glazed. They provide poor protection against the cold. Thermal refurbishment will therefore take place in 2024.
Once the renovation work is complete, the installation of a lift is planned for 2025.
Why the lift is important:
-
1.
Families stay at Haus Immanuel for a maximum of 2 years. Moving in and out is the order of the day. Carrying boxes, furniture and appliances to the upper floors is a particular challenge.
-
2.
In the case of injuries, the stairs become insurmountable barriers. One boy with a plaster cast, for example, was confined to his flat for weeks.
-
3.
The carer team can reach the families on the upper floors more quickly.
-
4.
With the installation of the lift, Haus Immanuel is taking a big step towards accessibility. Women and children with physical disabilities can also be accommodated in future.
